Sea energy plants
The image above illustrates a sea wave energy plant based on a wave energy conversion machine called the Oscillating Device.
The Oscillating Device comprises an annual shaped floater mounted to a floating column by means of an universial joint mechanism. The machine is equipped with air pumps which are activated by pivotal and vertical movement between the floater, column and a floating water chamber i.e. sea anchor. The air pumps are connected to a turbine which can be placed on the machine, onshore or on an offshore platform. A number of machines can supply compressed air to one single turbine to drive an electrical generator, a water pump or other machinery.
The Oscillating Device can be used in small waves, e.g. wave height 0.5 meter, as well as in large ocean waves. The performance of each machine can via subsea cable or wireless connection be remotely monitored from a PC placed e.g. in an office onshore.
