Ocean power device

The Oscillating Device is designed to convert the energy of sea waves into usable energy e.g. electricity.

The machine consists of the following main components:

- annual shaped floater

- floating column

- universal joint mechanism

- sea anchor including water chamber

- mechanical or pneumatic springs

- air pumps

- turbine

The floater is coupled to the column by means of the universal joint mechanism. The sea anchor is connected to the lower end of the column. The air pumps are mounted between the floater and column and between the column and sea anchor.

In response to sea wave forces the floater and column oscillate vertically and about horizontal axes while the sea anchor oscillates vertically. The air pumps transfer energy to the turbine by damping the relative motion between the floater, column and sea anchor.

The air pumps supply compressed air to the turbine which can be placed on the device, onshore or on an offshore platform.

Features:

Oscillating Device

A device oscillating in both vertical and horizontal direction can in theory absorb 100% of the wave force acting on the device. To read more about the principles of wave energy absorptium click here
